Bluehost‘s strongest edge is price. One $9.99-a-month subscription covers both building and hosting, where Elementor usually needs two separate purchases to match it. I walked both signup flows, compared real pricing pages, and tested a real support interaction on each side to reach this verdict.
1. Pricing Comparison
The first thing to understand about Elementor’s pricing is that it is not one purchase, it is two, and that structure changes the entire comparison.
What the Numbers Mean for a Builder
Bluehost’s AI Website Builder is a single line item, but the free trial that precedes it has a real constraint to know before you start building. It grants a temporary domain and five total AI edit credits, and every AI request, whether typed in chat or clicked directly on an element, spends one of those five, confirmed directly in earlier hands-on testing of this exact flow.
Five credits disappears fast once you start refining a generated draft.
Upgrading to the paid plan at $9.99 a month adds a free domain for the first year, domain privacy, free SSL, hosting for one website, a free CDN, weekly backups, malware detection and removal, and a larger monthly AI edit allowance, with a bonus batch of extra credits in the first month to cover the heavier editing that usually follows an upgrade.
All of that sits under one subscription, with the free trial available to test the builder itself before paying anything.
Elementor splits that same job into two purchases:
- An Editor Pro or Elementor One license, which unlocks the actual building tools, widgets, Theme Builder, Popup Builder, eCommerce features
- Elementor Host, a separate hosting subscription starting at $25 a month
Buy only the cheapest version of each, Advanced Solo at $7 a month plus Host Single-Site at $25 a month, and the combined cost is $32 a month, more than three times Bluehost’s all-in-one price.
That comparison is not entirely fair in one direction: Elementor’s Essential tier and Editor Pro licenses work on any WordPress hosting, so a buyer who already has hosting elsewhere only pays $5 to $9 a month for the editor itself, undercutting Bluehost easily. The math flips depending on one question: do you need hosting, or do you already have it?

The second is a gallery of 22 example sites, filterable by category (Modern Restaurant, Home Services, Professional Services, Technology/SaaS, Creative/Portfolio), each card showing a screenshot of the generated result next to the exact prompt that produced it, with a “Get started using this prompt” button that carries that prompt straight into the builder.
Clicking Get Started with a prompt ready triggers account creation before a single page generates. The sign-up modal offers Google, Apple, or GitHub as one-click options, or a standard email form asking for full name, email, phone number (optional), and a password, with no credit card requested.
The fine print at the bottom of this exact modal states the trial clock starts the moment you sign up and runs for 72 hours, not the 14 days advertised on the landing page one screen earlier, a gap confirmed independently across two separate tests of this same flow months apart.

Elementor’s signup screen leads with the same three social options, Google, Facebook, and Apple, with a genuinely useful callout box directly beneath them: “Use your social account to skip authentication.
Otherwise, you’ll need a verification code every time you sign in with your email.” That is an unusually direct piece of guidance for a signup screen, telling the visitor upfront which path saves friction later.
Choosing email instead requires a password meeting an 8-character minimum with a mix of upper and lower case, numbers, and special characters, which the interface confirms with a real-time strength check before the account can be created.
Building the Site
Bluehost
Once inside the builder, earlier hands-on testing used a deliberately detailed, slightly demanding prompt to see how the AI would handle nuance rather than a generic brief, describing a fictional two-attorney family law practice in Charleston, South Carolina, specifying a calm and approachable tone rather than a corporate one, naming five required pages (homepage, practice areas, attorney bios, testimonials, a contact page with a consultation form), and adding a deliberate negative instruction to avoid stock legal imagery like gavels and scales of justice.
The AI rewrote and strengthened that prompt live as it was typed, then responded “Great detail, let’s start” and began building immediately, skipping the clarifying questions Bluehost’s own marketing claims the tool can ask.
The build itself ran for about two minutes, with a loading screen showing a live checklist: setting up the website structure, creating the core React files, importing Tailwind components, writing the stylesheet, and choosing typography, landing on Playfair Display for headings and Poppins for body text.
The result was a four-page site with working navigation, not a single scrolling page pretending to be a full site. The homepage led with “Family Law with Human Dignity in Charleston,” using the calm, trustworthy tone requested throughout its copy.
The Attorneys page generated two full profiles with photos, credentials, and bar admissions. A testimonials section carried three named, quoted reviews tied to specific practice areas, and the contact page included the consultation scheduling form as asked.
The negative instruction held too: generated imagery showed attorneys in softly lit offices rather than any gavel or scale.
Where the draft fell short was in specifics a real business would need to fact-check. Homepage stat blocks like “150+ families supported” and “99% client satisfaction” read as exactly the kind of placeholder claim a small practice would need to verify or remove, and the testimonials, while plausible, were generic enough to need replacing with actual client language before publishing.
Checking the box to sell products online during this same prompt step routes the build into WooCommerce setup as part of the same generation pass, rather than a separate product to configure afterward.
Elementor
Elementor’s path to a finished site runs through a 6-step questionnaire before any building happens. It asks who you are building for (my business, a client, or someone building for my business), whether this is your first Elementor site, what type of site you are building (online store, blog, business/portfolio, or other), whether you already have a hosting provider, and which capabilities you want (image optimization, email deliverability, site accessibility, AI assistance, or just the editor).
A live preview panel on the right side of every screen updates as you answer, showing a sample site being assembled in real time so the wizard never feels abstract.
The payoff for that extra length is a genuinely tailored result. The final screen, headlined “It’s a match!,” recommends a specific Elementor Host plan based on the answers given, in one test, a Single-Site plan tagged “Best for SMB/eCommerce” after selecting “online store” and “no existing host” earlier in the flow.
That is a level of personalization Bluehost’s single-prompt flow does not attempt.
Managing Content
Bluehost
Clicking any element on the generated page, a heading, a button, an image, selects it and attaches it to a chat panel, so any follow-up instruction typed is scoped to that specific element.
A full style panel opens alongside it with Content (raw editable text), Link settings (default and hover states), Typography (font family, weight, size, line height, letter spacing, alignment), Appearance (section opacity), Colors (separate text and background controls), and Spacing, layout, size, stroke, and effects, a level of manual control closer to a page builder like Elementor than a chatbot limited to plain-language instructions.
A separate theme panel controls settings across the entire site at once: a color palette, font selection (the generated theme used Plus Jakarta Sans), corner radius presets, and shadow depth, plus a light and dark mode toggle that, when tested, swapped every button, card, and background on the page to a dark theme with an orange accent instantly, with no manual adjustment required.
Every change, whether made by clicking an element or typing a full instruction into chat with nothing selected, gets logged as a “Latest Modification” entry with a Preview button, a Code diff button, and a Restore link functioning as a lightweight undo.
Code access runs on two tiers. The Code diff button attached to each modification entry shows only the files that specific change touched.

Elementor’s content tools are visible from inside the wizard itself, before a purchase decision is even made, which is a different approach from Bluehost’s editor, which only appears after the AI has generated a full site.
The live preview panel shows a widget group labeled “Atomic Elements”: Div Block, Flexbox, Tabs, Heading, Paragraph, Image, SVG, Button, YouTube, and Divider, the same drag-and-drop building blocks that carry over into the full editor after setup. That label is not incidental.
It points to Elementor’s newer V4 editor architecture, built on a leaner DOM structure than the classic widget system, the same change one Elementor customer, quoted in the company’s own pricing materials, described as feeling like “the first time driving an electric car… everything is just so clean, lean, fast” after switching over.
The widgets shown here read as foundational rather than exhaustive: structural blocks (Div Block, Flexbox) sit alongside content elements (Heading, Paragraph, Image) and a few interactive pieces (Button, YouTube, SVG), the basic vocabulary a builder works in before layering on Pro-tier widgets, Theme Builder templates, and Popup Builder elements once a paid license is active.
Selecting “AI assistance” during the capabilities step adds a second toolbar directly above the site preview, five icon buttons for image, video, accessibility, AI generation (marked with a sparkle icon), and a cursor tool.
Each of those maps to a specific paid capability covered elsewhere in Elementor’s pricing: the image icon corresponds to the image optimization tool billed at 10 credits per image on a One plan, the accessibility icon to the scanning and AI-fix tools billed at 20 credits per fix, and the sparkle icon to the AI generation actions that cost between 1 and 40 credits depending on complexity.
Seeing that toolbar assembled during onboarding, before checkout, functions as a genuine preview of what a paid Elementor One subscription actually buys, rather than a marketing description of it.
Running the Site Day to Day
Bluehost
Publishing carries a real messaging problem to flag directly. The in-app banner during testing read “Your website is not live yet. Upgrade now to publish and get your custom domain,” language that reads as though publishing itself requires payment.
Clicking Publish told a different story. It generated a live, working mybluehost.me subdomain immediately, at no cost, with no upgrade required, and a “Publish changes” button to push further edits to that same address.
What actually requires upgrading is a custom domain of your own, a distinction the banner does not make clear.
Ongoing account management lives in a separate Account Manager dashboard, reached by clicking “back to portal” from the editor’s top-bar menu, not obvious from inside the editor itself. This is where the site list lives, alongside a trial countdown (“3 of 3 days remaining” in testing), an Upgrade button, and a Help dropdown linking to the knowledge base, phone support, and live chat, the only place these support channels were found.
For stores in particular, AI Store adds a further layer on top of this, described in Bluehost’s own documentation as conversational catalog and order management, though that layer has not been tested hands-on the way the build and publishing flow above have been.
Elementor
Elementor’s ongoing management layer depends on which license was purchased. On Editor Pro plans, day-to-day work stays inside the WordPress editor itself.
On an Elementor One plan, a shared monthly credit pool unlocks AI generation, image optimization, accessibility fixes, email deliverability, and cookie consent, all metered per action: an AI accessibility fix costs 20 credits, an optimized image costs 10, an email delivery costs 10, and AI actions for text, code, image, or container generation cost between 1 and 40 credits depending on complexity.
Credits reset monthly and do not roll over, so an unusually AI-heavy month can run the pool dry before the next reset, at which point the only options are waiting or upgrading to a higher tier.
Overall Verdict on Ease of Use: Bluehost gets a working site built faster, one prompt, one build, no separate purchase decisions along the way. Elementor’s onboarding takes longer precisely because it is doing more: matching a buyer to the right plan based on real answers rather than pointing everyone at the same subscription. Whether that extra time pays off depends on how much the buyer already knows about what they need.
3. AI Capabilities
Both platforms lead with AI, but they spend it differently: Bluehost concentrates AI into the build itself, Elementor spreads it across a metered credit system that touches many small tasks.
Bluehost
The AI Website Builder generates an entire site in one pass from a written prompt, deciding layout, copy, and structure before a page exists, confirmed in earlier hands-on testing to produce a working four-page site in about two minutes from a single detailed brief, including working navigation, tone-matched copy, and a negative instruction about imagery honored without being repeated.
That AI effort is front-loaded into creation, but it is not free of limits afterward: the free trial allocates only five total AI edit credits, and every request, a chat instruction or a clicked-element edit alike, spends one, so continued refinement after the initial build draws down that same small pool until the paid plan’s larger allowance and first-month bonus credits take over.
There is no per-action credit pricing to calculate the way Elementor’s system requires, just a fixed number of requests included before an upgrade becomes necessary.
Elementor
Elementor’s AI lives inside Elementor One rather than the base Editor Pro plans, and it behaves less like a single generation event and more like a utility meter running in the background of ongoing site work:
- AI actions for text, code, image, and container generation cost between 1 and 40 credits per action, a range wide enough that the cost of any single request is not predictable upfront
- Image optimization and email deliverability are billed the same way, 10 credits per action, each valued at $60 a year if purchased as standalone tools

- The entire pool resets monthly with no rollover, so credits not used by month’s end are simply gone
That structure rewards steady, moderate use and penalizes a single AI-heavy month, the exact inverse of Bluehost’s flat-fee approach.
4. Editor and Design Capabilities
This is Elementor’s home turf, and the gap in tested depth is the widest of any category in this comparison.
Bluehost
The AI Website Builder’s design toolkit is confirmed in earlier hands-on testing to run deeper than a typical AI-first tool: an element-level style panel covering Content, Link states, Typography (family, weight, size, line height, letter spacing, alignment), Appearance, Colors, and Spacing/layout/size/stroke/effects, a site-wide theme panel with font selection, corner radius presets, shadow depth, and a one-click light and dark mode swap that repaints buttons, cards, and backgrounds instantly, chat-based editing that mirrors every click-based change in a logged history with Preview and Restore controls, and a two-tier code system running from a per-change diff up to a full, browsable file tree of React components, Tailwind CSS, and custom hooks.
That is a real, functioning toolkit, confirmed to include a WordPress ecommerce integration file scaffolded automatically into the codebase even when no ecommerce box was checked, suggesting the AI builds with future store capability in mind by default.
What it is not built around is a widget library assembled for building from scratch in the first place, since every one of these tools exists to refine what the AI already generated rather than to construct a layout piece by piece.
Elementor
Elementor’s design tools are the product itself, and the tier a buyer chooses directly gates how much of it they get. Essential opens up 57 Pro widgets, the Theme Builder, and Dynamic Content, but withholds the Popup Builder and custom code entirely.
Advanced Solo and above open up the full 85-widget library plus motion effects like parallax and scroll animations, global widgets that update everywhere at once when edited in one place, and a Role Manager to control who can access the editor on team or client projects.
5. Website Performance Comparison
I ran a live GTmetrix test against a real Elementor-built site and compared it to a Bluehost-hosted site tested earlier in this review series. One caveat matters immediately: the two tests ran from different locations, Frankfurt for the Elementor site and Quebec City for the Bluehost site, on two independently existing sites with different content, not a matched pair. Read this as a real-world snapshot rather than a controlled benchmark.
Elementor
The Elementor-built site tested returned a near-perfect GTmetrix result: a 100% Performance Grade and a 99% Structure Grade, the highest combined score of any site tested in this review series.
TTFB came in at 148ms, with a backend time of just 10ms, meaning the server responded to the first request almost immediately once the connection was established.
Every downstream metric followed the same pattern: LCP at 456ms, Total Blocking Time at a flat 0ms, and a Fully Loaded Time of 607ms, under two-thirds of a second for the entire page including all assets.
Bluehost
The site tested was hosted on a mybluehost.me trial subdomain, the same kind of temporary domain the AI Website Builder publishes to before a custom domain is added, tested from Quebec City, Canada. It returned a 67% Performance Grade and a 71% Structure Grade, both well behind the Elementor result.
TTFB at 802ms was more than five times slower, and the 412ms connect time accounts for a large share of that gap, over three times longer than the Elementor site’s connect time. LCP at 4.1s and a Fully Loaded Time of 4.1s were both several seconds behind Elementor’s figures.
Total Blocking Time at 41ms and Cumulative Layout Shift at 0.01 were the two metrics closest to Elementor’s result, the smallest gaps in an otherwise one-sided comparison.
6. Features and Store-Building
Both platforms can build an online store, but they gate that capability differently, and the entry cost to reach it is not the same.
Bluehost
Bluehost keeps dedicated store-building separate from the AI Website Builder in its product lineup, but the AI Website Builder path is not disconnected from commerce, and testing it directly with the “sell products online” box checked confirmed just how far it goes on its own.
A fresh prompt for a handmade candle business generated a fully branded storefront, Amber & Wick, in one pass.
The product catalog itself was not placeholder content. Six candles were generated and published simultaneously (all timestamped 9:27 AM in the WordPress admin), each with a real name, size, and price, Vanilla Orchid Fresh Candle at 6oz for $21.99, Spiced Amber Noir Candle at 9oz for $27.99, and so on, three of the six carrying sale pricing with the original price struck through automatically.
Checking the WordPress admin confirmed WooCommerce itself had been installed and activated as a full top-level menu item, not just a page template, and every product arrived pre-sorted into logical categories (Floral Candles, Fresh Candles, Spiced Candles, Woody Candles) and tags (Best Seller, Eco Friendly, Limited Edition, New Arrivals) that were consistent across the catalog rather than randomly assigned.
The one gap: none of the six products had a SKU generated, a small but real piece of manual cleanup left for the store owner before the catalog is genuinely production-ready.
Set against that, WooCommerce Hosting is Bluehost’s separate dedicated product for anyone building a store outside the AI Website Builder, covered in earlier reviews in this series, bundling 16 premium WooCommerce plugins, including a One-Click Checkout tool built to reduce cart abandonment, gift cards, product add-ons, and an affiliate program tool, at no extra cost beyond the hosting plan itself, plugins a store owner would otherwise piece together at an estimated $1,200 or more a year.
Elementor
Elementor folds eCommerce into its existing tier structure rather than selling it as a separate product.

The AI Website Builder’s paid plan includes free SSL, a free CDN, weekly backups, and malware detection and removal, alongside domain privacy on the free domain provided in the first year, all confirmed from the plan’s published feature list.
What is not documented at this particular product tier is a named WAF, DDoS protection, or a formal uptime SLA with a service credit, the kind of stack found on Bluehost’s separate WooCommerce Hosting product, covered in earlier reviews in this series, which does bundle a Web Application Firewall, DDoS protection, and a 99.99% uptime guarantee with a service credit for Shared hosting plans purchased on or after March 5, 2025.
A buyer choosing the AI Website Builder for a general site should not assume that stronger stack carries over automatically; it belongs to a different Bluehost product.
Elementor
Elementor Host’s security stack is documented in comparable depth: Cloudflare Enterprise CDN, premium free SSL, WAF and DDoS protection with botnet defense named directly, two-factor authentication, and 24/7 real-time security monitoring, all included rather than sold as add-ons.
Backups run automatically with on-demand options and restore functionality, scaling from 14 days’ retention on the Single-Site plan to 30 days on Multi-Site.
The uptime guarantee sits at 99.9%, a fraction below Bluehost’s 99.99% figure, though both are backed by service commitments rather than informal targets.
8. Support
Support quality showed a real difference in this testing, not just in channel count but in whether the first line of contact could actually answer a real question.
Bluehost
Support for the AI Website Builder is not reachable from inside the editor itself; it lives in the separate Account Manager dashboard, under a Help dropdown listing a knowledge base, phone support, and live chat. Phone support runs 1-888-401-4678 domestically or +1 801-765-9400 internationally, 7 AM to midnight EST, seven days a week, not a full 24 hours.
Live chat was tested with two pointed questions rather than anything a help-article title could answer alone. The first asked whether adding custom code to a generated section, a JavaScript booking widget or an API integration, would break the AI’s future editing of that section or lock it out of regeneration entirely.
The answer confirmed custom code is not explicitly locked, but acknowledged it can affect how the AI edits that section afterward, and recommended backing up before major code changes.
The second question asked whether an exported or migrated site stays clean, standard code or arrives wrapped in builder-specific markup.
The answer was direct about the tradeoff: exported code is not standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, it carries structures specific to the AI builder platform, and migrating elsewhere will likely require cleanup, a level of honesty about a real limitation rather than a glossed-over answer.
Each response arrived within seconds, cited specific knowledge base articles by name, and offered tappable follow-up questions instead of requiring more typing. Separately, searching the knowledge base for “website builder” returned an AI-written seven-point summary sourced from three specific articles, followed by 123 traditional search results with category and read-time filters.
Opening one of the top results, “Bluehost AI Website Builder How-To Videos,” showed a byline, a last-updated date, a table of contents, a stated difficulty rating of Easy, and two embedded video walkthroughs, a level of article structure closer to real documentation than a thin help page.
Elementor
Elementor’s Virtual Assistant sits in the corner of every page on the site, badged “Introducing Elementor One” as a promotional banner above the chat window itself.
Testing it with a genuine technical question, what happens to dynamic content pulled from Advanced Custom Fields if Elementor is later deactivated, does the content stay readable in plain WordPress or break down into unusable shortcodes, returned a direct non-answer: “Sorry, I couldn’t find anything on that.

That is not a failure of channel availability, the assistant responded immediately and offered clear next steps, but it is a failure to answer a specific, legitimate question a WordPress site owner would reasonably ask before committing to the platform.
Overall Verdict: Bluehost vs Elementor
Bluehost wins for anyone who wants one subscription, one price, and a working site without assembling separate purchases. Its AI Website Builder bundles building and hosting into a single $9.99-a-month plan, its tested support gave specific answers to pointed questions, and there is no credit system to budget against for AI use.
Elementor wins for anyone who already has hosting, or who cares more about editor depth and design control than bundled simplicity. Its widget library, Theme Builder, and Popup Builder are tools built by a dedicated page-builder company, and in this round of testing, an Elementor-built site posted a dramatically stronger GTmetrix score than the Bluehost site tested.
The tradeoff is structural: getting the same build-plus-host experience Bluehost sells as one product usually means buying two things from Elementor, and the cheapest combination still runs well above Bluehost’s flat rate.
