Paid to renew, forced to move elsewhere, then told to pay more — unacceptable support
I renewed my GreenCloud Japan VPS for its advertised China-optimized network. After renewal and the traffic reset, I found that I could no longer use
...the proxy connection from mainland China.
I tested TCP ports 443, 2053, and 2087 without success. Tests from outside mainland China could use the proxy, and VPS services I use from other providers remained accessible. I cannot prove that the renewal caused the problem, but this is when I encountered it.
Support acknowledged that the IP range might be affected by GFW blocking. Their responses repeatedly referred to the non-refundable policy, suggested changing ports, or asked me to wait several weeks for additional IP ranges.
Their latest offer was a replacement IP for $2, which they would first test through Ping.pe to check TCP port 443 accessibility from mainland China. I acknowledge that this was a proposed remedy. However, by then I had already purchased another VPS and completed my migration because I could not leave my operations on hold. My renewal refund request was refused.
I understand that GreenCloud cannot control the GFW and that “China-optimized” is not a guarantee of permanent accessibility. My complaint is about how the situation was handled: I had just renewed, could not use the service for my intended purpose, and received no timely working alternative. I was left paying for both the renewal and a replacement service.
I also had an earlier disappointing experience with a separate VPS costing approximately $20. I accidentally submitted a cancellation request on the first day and asked to have the service restored, not refunded. Support required a $5 recreation fee. Their current terms do list that fee, but the lack of flexibility left a poor impression.
My one-star rating reflects my customer-service experience and dissatisfaction with the remedies offered. I would not renew again. Anyone relying on mainland China connectivity should carefully review the network limitations, refund exclusions, and cancellation fees before purchasing.
